BACKGROUND:
Link to wiki history.
Canderous was born and raised in Mandalorian culture on planet Ordo, growing up with an upbringing that placed heavy cultural importance on combat as a way of life, and in a period between wars, where the Mandalorians were spent from fighting in the Sith Wars that happened not that long ago, and were also raising new warriors for an upcoming war with the Republic. In case you haven't noticed, Mandalorians are super down for war, pretty much all the time.
"Ha! We would travel from world to world, and descend on it in our Basilisk war droids. I still remember my first combat... I remember it well, orbiting high above a placid world, its defenses just stirring. As was tradition, I would go ahead of the first wave to find enemies in the thickest fighting. I remember sitting there in my armor, linked directly with the Basilisk thrumming beneath me. My heart racing with fear at the coming battle."
They were, at this time, raiding and conquering planets on the outer rim of the galaxy in preparation to invade the Galactic Republic, and this was where Canderous spent most of his formative years. He was one of the most promising youth warriors of his clan, and was fighting on the frontlines of battles from approximately mid-teens onwards.
He participated in several notable battles, (e.g. Battle of Althir), and at one point, improvised an impressive tactical maneuver against the Althiri, taking advantage of a break in their defences to force a total retreat. However, this did leave a small portion of his forces undefended and unsupported, most of them perishing while the Althiri were routed. He still gained command of a sub-sect of his clan with this feat.
The planet of Cathar was one of the planets that Mandalorians raided, but in this case, also involved a near-extermination of the Cathar people, due to old grudges from the last war. Soon after, they officially started to invade Republic space, with enormous success. It seemed like they had decided to take on the entire galaxy, and would actually win.
"At the start, they were not much of a threat to speak of, but once the Jedi Revan had taken charge, things began to turn against us. The Republic fleets began to use more than just basic tactics. Feints, counterattacks, mass deceptions. Revan was a genius on the field. Revan abandoned worlds of their defenders so that others would be too fortified to strike, and was willing to make sacrifices in order to advance goals. And in the end, Revan proved too much for us."
The Jedi Order had, up until this point, refused to intervene or be involved against the Mandalorians, citing caution. Unfortunately for them, a particularly charismatic and passionate Jedi named Revan decided that injustice like this couldn't continue to be ignored, and convinced a whole host of Jedi to become involved in the war against their wishes. After Revan - an unmatched tactician with enormous force of personality - had become involved, the tide started to turn.
And after a final, cataclysmic battle on Malachor V, the Mandalorians were finally defeated. Their leader, Mandalore, was defeated and killed in single combat, and their armor, basilisk war droids, and weapons were collected and destroyed in front of them, and the Mandalore's mask was hidden away, crippling their ability to wage war in the same way again. And a part of it involved their cultural destruction, considering the significance of these items and hierarchical position. They were scattered across the Outer Rim, many of them becoming mercenaries or wanderers. A significant number fled in the losing stages of the war, becoming raiders. Canderous himself became a mercenary, working under a crime lord named Davik Kang on Taris. While under his employ, he found himself severely over-qualified for his position as hired muscle doing "menial" tasks like debt collection and intimidation.
For two years he did this work, feeling vaguely dissatisfied and yearning for the times where he had faced real challenges and more meaningful battles. In this time, Revan had disappeared then returned, turning against the Republic and leading an army against them. Revan then "died" at the hands of a strike team led by a Jedi named Bastila Shan. Revan's apprentice, Malak, took over command. Several months after Revan died, a Republic ship was shot down over Taris, and several escape pods managed to launch from it, resulting in a Sith blockade of the planet. Carth Onasi, a Republic captain, Bastila Shan, and Revan who was mind-wiped by the Jedi Council and implanted with a false identity numbered among those who managed to escape.
However, Canderous wasn't aware of this. Severely inconvenienced by the Sith blockade, it put a hamper on his plans on leaving Taris for greener pastures. Considering that nobody could leave the planet, and that they would be shot down if they did, he hatched a plan to steal Davik's flagship The Ebon Hawk, as well as some codes from the Sith military base, to escape. His face too easily recognized to do it himself, he enlisted the help of Revan's group to steal the codes for him, while he would give them access to the ship so they could all leave the planet in their common interest.
Unfortunately, just as they had infiltrated Davik's compound and were about to board the ship, the Sith started to bombard Taris, done with trying to find Bastila and instead just taking the ham-fisted approach of destroying the entire planet to kill her. After a brief fight with Davik and his other hired mercenary, they fled the planet on their ship, tying his destiny to theirs.
Bastila brought the group to Dantooine, which had a Jedi Enclave, and the Council tasked Revan and Bastila (who had been experiencing shared visions of mysterious artifacts called "star maps") to go and follow these visions and find them. Canderous tagged along, as did the rest of the Ebon Hawk crew, as he thought it'd be a damn fine opportunity to find challenges and kill them.
They visited Kashyyyk, Tatooine, Manaan, and Korriban to find these star maps, having adventures, seeing visions, killing Sith assassination squads, dodging Malak, and solving sidequests as well as deep-seated emotional issues of the party the entire way. But one event in particular affected Canderous in particular, when they encountered Jagi, a man who had been under Canderous's command during the battle of Althir. He'd been hunting down Canderous for a while, and now that he finally found him, accused him of being a glory-hound and utterly irresponsible, blaming him for the deaths that had been caused to his unit. He was shaken by seeing Jagi when he'd thought him dead, but found his fire again when those accusations had been made. He was issued a challenge to a duel on Tatooine, and he gladly accepted.
Once on Tatooine, while they faced each other down on the dune seas, Revan convinced them to talk it out, however briefly. Canderous had the opportunity to explain his actions, and why he made the decisions that he did. With Revan's interference, Canderous successfully made his case as to why his decision was the right one, and Jagi accepted this, and took his own life in penance. While accepting that it was the "only" way in which it could have ended, the experience still left him shaken, and reflecting deeply on his history, actions, and worldview. But the galaxy stops for no one, even for personal revelations, and so the party continued on, until they were captured by the Sith flagship, the Leviathan.
Their ship was pulled into the Leviathan, and they were captured, but not before devising a plan to escape. Carth, Bastila, and Revan were tortured, while the others were detained in cells. While there, Revan's true identity and past was revealed. After escaping, Revan revealed to everyone else of their true identity, and received a mixed bag of reactions.
Canderous was THRILLED to find out.
This history section is now getting really long, so I'll wrap it up quick. Bastila stayed behind to buy them time, got captured then turned evil. They found the last star map, and it led to the Star Forge, a massive ancient forge capable of creating starships and the reason why the Sith were winning the war. Revan fights Bastila, saves her, fights Malak, kills him, and they save the galaxy from the threat of the Sith evil. Everybody gets a cool medal from the Republic, Canderous included! He's left with the strong idea that the Mandalorians need to be reunited and reminded of their cultural roots, but is willing to chill a bit before it happens.
PERSONALITY:
Canderous is first encountered as a mercenary working for Davik Kang, a well-known crime Lord on Taris. He's well into his 50s by then, and the first impression you get of him is that he does not mess around. His first encounter is brief, but telling. Some gang members are in an argument with Davik's representative and are refusing to pay their share towards him, acting tough. Then when Canderous is whistled for and he approaches around the corner, they immediately pay up and scarper off. Canderous mocks them for running, says he was looking forward to breaking some heads, talks with you briefly, then stalks off because he's busy.
But he's not just dumb muscle, or somebody in it just for the credits. He's eminently practical, that's true, and you need credits to live - that's how he ended up working for Davik in the first place. But he places honor above all else, viewing petty debt collection, intimidation, and the occasional public execution as ultimately beneath him, simple busywork and nothing more than errand-running for the rich who won't settle their own problems themselves. He views Mandalorian raiders as scum without honor, the pathetic who ran from the final battles and now waste their time and effort picking at easy targets.
Instead, he displays a wistfulness for past glories and battles, remembering a time where he had worthier battles than against easily-intimidated swoop-gang scum. He's a surprisingly calm and laid-back individual in his downtime once he joins the Ebon Hawk crew - when he's in the right mood - easily agreeing to tell detailed stories of his past exploits and strange misadventures he's experienced in his many years of living. He's capable of surprisingly poetic twists of storytelling, and is happy to wax philosophical about Mandalorian honor, and his memories of the war. Depending, of course - whether his audience is worthy of his time.
Of course, this Mandalorian honor involves harboring an immense hatred of "cowards", non-combatants and a callous disregard for civilian casualties. This is a man who wholly believes that it's the Republic's fault if their shield generators are placed in the middle of cities, and not away from non-combatants, and that glassing a continent is a small price to pay to hold an entire world. That to raze cities to the ground and commit genocide of planets is a test to prove your worth, and gain glory. He hates Mandalorian raiders not because they prey on the weak and that's inherently bad, but because they could be doing much "better", like going for harder targets.
But on the flip side of that coin, he is - if anything - not a hypocrite. If he adamantly believes that might makes right, he holds no grudge against the Republic for defeating his people, and essentially scattering them across the Outer Rim. In fact, he tries to make conversation with Republic soldiers like Carth Onasi, and tries to find common ground to talk about by asking if they could have fought in the same battles, which obviously isn't received well. He is a man who is so entrenched in this philosophy that he doesn't pick up on why some people who isn't him might still have hard feelings about a war that ended just two years ago. And when faced with the person who was single-handedly responsible for turning the tides of war against his people and destroying their culture so that they could never wage war in the same way again, simply displays admiration and reverence towards the greatest warrior of their times.
He's also enormously loyal - to those he believe deserve his respect, and to those who have proved themselves to him. He had no second thoughts about stealing Davik's ship and killing him, as he'd cheated Canderous out of his wages, but will follow Revan no matter what. He's also dutiful to those who are his responsibility, viewing it as his practical-minded obligation as a commander if he's leading a team of men into a dangerous area of the Undercity.
So he is a product of his culture, and it empowers him, but hamstrings him at the same time. He is, ultimately, a prideful man. When challenged by Jagi to a fight to the death on Tatooine, he felt like he had no option but to accept to defend his honor against these accusations, even if it was possible that he was walking into a trap. And he was adamant that he go and smear him into a paste for insulting him and calling him out as a glory-hound, despite how dangerous it could have been.
He is also a very honest man - what you hear him say is almost definitely what you get. He's very, very blunt in his mannerisms; he's not afraid to say whatever's on his mind, whether it's judging a farmer for not being able to defend his wife, daughter, and homestead from raiders - "It was your fault you couldn't keep her" - or speaking sotto voce when a Jedi mind-trick is performed - "I'm amazed at how many people that works on. The entire galaxy must be filled with weak-minded fools". Mostly because he believes that if somebody has a problem with what he's saying? Then take it up with him. If not, then who cares? He's not a very nice person - he makes mean jokes. He laughs at other people's misfortune, especially if they've brought it upon themselves. He's not afraid to point out mistakes. He butts into people's conversation to give his (often unwelcome) input.
But he's not just honest when being an asshole - he's honest when he's emotionally vulnerable as well, even if he might not have figured it out yet. In the aftermath of Jagi's duel, he explicitly says that he needs time to think about it, about why he feels strange, and is honest with his response when he does.
"I think I need something more than killing and fighting in my life. I need a purpose or something like that."
Fundamentally, he's looking for a calling. A calling that starts when he (forcibly) leaves Davik's employ and realises just how dissatisfied he was with his life as it was. Through the duel with Jagi, and through travelling with a motley crew, he comes to realise that he's changed over the course of this adventure - that he's not the same man he was, and that burning worlds for the sake of conquest doesn't hold as much pleasure for him anymore. Deciding instead to return to their roots of "...honor in battle. Cheating death. Comrades in arms. The code of the Mandalore."
POWER:
I'm Your Man (imPort power)
Canderous will be able to slowly regenerate injuries over time. Within reason - limbs won't grow back. Small cuts will take roughly a half a minute, and something as severe as extensive 2nd/3rd degree burns on his body can take around several hours. He will obviously die if somebody chops off his head, and bleeding out is still a very real risk if it's a major laceration. As long as he's stable and alive, he'll heal, entering a catatonic state if it's particularly severe.
If he's in the sight of somebody he trusts and respects greatly, he's able to transfer this power from himself to them temporarily, for a maximum of 5 hours. He won't have access to this power while it's transferred to the other person.
A Challenge You Can't Ignore (imPort power)
When Canderous issues a serious verbal challenge to somebody for one-on-one combat and then carries it through, that person's powers are reduced or nullified and the opponent is compelled to respond to the challenge (to varying degrees, depending on player or plot permissions). This effect only lasts until the fight is over, whether through incapacitation, death, or mutual agreement.
Weapons of War (imPort power)
The ability to materialize, and un-materialize his weapons and armor. Takes significant concentration to do so, and will be very difficult if he's disorientated or concussed. Includes:
- Ordo's Repeating Blaster - a prototype heavy repeater blaster that Canderous uses. Comes with a stun setting, but only in the sense that rubber bullets are "non-lethal".
- Basilisk war droid - a semi-sentient robot mount. Reduced very much from its original size and capabilities to say, 3 meters tall. Capable of flight, no faster than 300 km/h. It has a rudimentary AI that's equivalent of a vaguely intelligent animal, not capable of carrying out complex instructions independently other than the equivalent of "stand up", or "sit" on command. Equipped with mounted blaster cannons (similar in capability to his heavy repeater), and small missiles.
- Krath Dire Sword - it's a sword. Doesn't have any special properties, other than it's extremely durable and able to hold up against other weapons like lightsabers.
- Three small knives.
- Durasteel Heavy Armor. Able to hold up against bullets and blasters fairly well, but it's not impenetrable. It can be vacuum sealed, with an oxygen supply of an hour.
- A pouch containing x1 of each grenade (Frag, Concussion, Plasma, Thermal Detonator)
- A random assortment of stimulants. They provide a boost in attributes to temporarily allow the user to be tougher, stronger, or quicker, but effects wear off after ten minutes, and the user's adrenal system might burn out if used excessively.

[The video opens with an image of a fierce-looking man with greying hair, adjusting the camera. The communicator bobs up and down, giving a good close-up of hairy forearms before it zooms out again.]
I don't remember people giving me this much lip on Taris, [he grumbles under his breath. With a final tsk, he sets the communicator down and looks seriously into the camera]
I've had many challenges to my honor, these days. Challenges by idiots who don't know the first thing of what they talk of. I am not ashamed of what I am. [Canderous says, pride in the slant of his shoulders.] And if you have a problem with me, you're more than welcome to take it up.
[He gives a dry, mean little grin.]
